Program Description

The Pharmacy Technician (PhT) works under the supervision of the Pharmacist and performs those tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of medications and other health care products. The Pharmacy technician may find work opportunities in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, mail service, and home IV therapy.

The duties of the Pharmacy Technician may vary at each work setting depending on the size, specialty, and individual state regulations, and/or prescriptions. The PhT will also maintain records of patients medication dosages, type medication labels, calculate medication charges, answer telephone inquiries, fill prescription orders, and assist the pharmacist in other areas.

State Licensure is required at the completion of the program.

A brief orientation program will be presented to all students who have an interest in this program. This orientation lasts about one hour and explains entrance requirements and provides all the information necessary for the student to begin the application process for this program.

Due to the sensitive nature of the subjects taught in the Pharmacy Technician Program there are several additional admission requirements. Pharmacy Technician students will find themselves in situations where they may come in contact with body fluids, be involved in the treatments and care of sick people, work with medications involving narcotics, and so forth.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE ADDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS PROGRAM:
  • Drug Test
