Medical Billing and Coding specialists are key members of the healthcare team. The medical coder assigns the appropriate code on claims based on the medical record. The medical biller uses the information compiled by the medical coder to process the claim for reimbursement. Students will gain practical and relevant coding skills for the modern health care environment. This includes an introduction to all of the major coding systems, with the latest ICD-10 code set, conventions, guidelines and mapping for the hospital or physician's office. Students will also learn basic office skills including scheduling patients, correctly identifying components of medical charts, what HIPAA is and how it applies to patient information.
